I Don't Get L.A.

Day #87
Tripometer: 10662.4 miles

So I made it to Los Angeles today, which I have been to once before and was not impressed with. Today I went to the Simon Wiesenthal Museum of Tolerance which was remarkable. The first part of the museum looked at the use of language and how the words we choose to use or not use promote intolerance. There was then an exhibit that looked specifically at recent incidents of intolerance in the United States. It was incredibly well done. The next part of the museum looked at the Holocaust (the ultimate form of intolerance) but specifically through the propaganda. I have seen a few Holocaust museums and exhibits so it was interesting to me to see and exhibit done in such a unique way. The final, temporary exhibit looked at the importance of learning about your past and you family as a way of learning more about yourself. I was completely fascinated by this exhibit. The most fabulous part of the exhibit was the role that various celebrities played. There were room recreated to look like certain parts of a celebrity’s story. You then got to see the celebrity talk about the importance of their family or talk about the process of researching more about their family. It was really remarkable.

I then went to Dodger Stadium and caught the Dodgers/Giants game. A few things caught my attention at the game. First, there was cheering and even some booing but still, nothing like NY. Second, after the 7th inning the stadium cleared out as if the game was over. Finally, everyone hates the Yankees. A couple of times during the game I could hear some faint “Yankees suck” cheers.
